Day 81 ... Lunch in Penang

 

CHICKEN PIE

Checked out of the hotel at about 10am. Supposed to meet Grace at 11:30pm at Heritage Hotel. Chilled out at Starbucks, New World Park, which is right beside the hotel. 

There was a mini-training (about 10 people) going on with the Starbucks new employees. 

Opening line by the trainer : "Those of You who have not tucked in your shirt, please do so now."

Ahah, and THAT, Ladies & Gentlemen, is the trade secret of Starbucks. Appearance. :D

At Heritage Hotel ...

The Chicken Pie was nice but You cannot eat a lot. What's the point of eating if You can't eat a lot, right? Too creamy and too rich, I thought. A small portion is okay and pastry is kinda nice. That's why I have to convince Dr Sumi for us to try making cream-less pie when I see her for my pie baking session. :D

Hainanese Fried Noodles

I must say, the above noodles were super delicious. Kinda like the birthday noodles that we intend to do next with the assam laksa group of chefs. :D

 Bryan said, "Since we are at a hotel, 

we must experience the ahhhh, JoYS of FiNE DiNiNG ..."

Am still trying to grasp the concept of that sort of joy.

Spring Roll

I was inspecting a family photo of Grace's and interrogating her. Who's the oldest, who's the youngest etc. You can see that she's a bit tickled because I said she looks younger than the rest of her siblings. :D

And so she happily bought me Thai Milk Tea at J Co, Queensbay Mall. My rental-free Penang Office. Took a snap shot of the serviette, can't remember why now.

 

Notice how we are holding our drinks? With the LOGO partially hidden? Now, if this coffee and donut outlet paid us a good commission, we would be holding the drinks with the LOGO nicely exposed. 

Hahhh, something to think about, J CO!!!

Before we left Penang, we went to Kapitan Curry House to order take-away lamb biryani and tandoori chicken with garlic naan bread for dinner with Justine back home. :D You could say, it's almost like a ritual that we never fail to observe whenever we are in Penang. :D

Day 80 ... Dinner in Penang

We resumed our journey to Penang after our lunch break in Ipoh. Arrived in Penang Tune Hotel about 4pm. Checked in. The Tune Bill for a Five Star Bed at One Star Price was RM10-95. Went up to the third floor, and Bryan stopped at the above room. 

Three-One-Eight. 

I asked, Did You ask for this room?

Bryan said, No, the guy just gave this room. :D
All my favourite numbers. :D

Ricky came to pick us up at 6:30pm for dinner. Went along Gurney Drive (I think) and stopped by one of the food hawker outlet. Got us a table. 

While waiting for the rest to turn up, we ordered Or-Chien (Fried Oyster). THAT was the highlight the dinner, for me. 

Oh my, it was out of this world! Truly, out, out, out of this world.

I should have just ordered another plate all for myself ... but decided against it. What would the others think?

Sting Ray with some kind of spicy sauce over it.

Yeah, the presentation is not so great. Ah, but looks can be deceiving. Tried it and found that the fish was absolutely fresh and tasty, and the sauce was quite interesting to the taste bud. :D

We had a really nice dinner. 

I couldn't get the Or-Chien out of my mind. 

Thinking about it the whole night.  

The taste, the texture, the crispy bits, the succulent egg, 

the fresh oyster dipped in chilly sauce ... O-M-G!

Day 80 ... Pan Mee Noodle Lunch In Ipoh

Today, Bryan and I took a trip up north. We stopped by Ipoh for lunch. Since we had Ipoh Hor Fun (rice noodles) the last trip, we decided to try a fairly new Pan Pee (Flour Noodles) restaurant that is opposite the Ipoh Viva Center. :D

 Bryan ordered Spicy Dry Pan Mee.

 He enjoyed it very much, and wanted me to take this snapshot for HIS blog.

Grin. Too late. 

 I went through the menu, and came across 

Set No. 11 : WOLFBERRY PAN MEE.

Wolfberry? Your guess is as good as mine.

I checked and the waiter assured me that the only meat in it was chicken meat.

No, no WOLF ... not even in disguise, I don't think.

My WOLF noodles came this way. No marks for presentation, huh.

Looks kinda messy, don't You think? 

Immediately, leaned over to Bryan and said,

"Exchange half-half." 

That means, I eat half of mine, and he eats half of his, and we swap.

I normally resort to immediate sharing when the thing I order turns out not as expected.

Oh Yes, by the way, we had Iced Milk Tea with our lunch.

Oh, the teh si peng was just excellent!

Close up. Looks like yee mee noodle at first glance,

but the waiter said, it's made of PUMPKIN. 

Pumpkin???

Oh okay ... Let's just try it ...

After my first mouthful, leaned over to Bryan again and said,

"No need to share." :D

The noodles were smooth and nice, soup was tasty,

  I added side sambal (chilly) to spice things up a notch.

 We ordered a "middle" dish.

In our family, whenever we eat out, we normally call a "middle dish."

A dish that is placed in the middle (of the table) for all to try. 

Sometimes, we call just one middle dish, sometimes two, sometimes three ...

Oooohhhhh ... The dumplings were just awesome ... :D

The dumpling wrap was all slippery, soft and smooth.

That itself got BONUS points from me.

Normally, I chew up the dumpling skin all around the meat, 

and pass the meaty part to Bryan. 

This one though, I didn't. 

The filling was actually quite, quite good. :D

Day 77 ... Rapunzel's Birthday Dinner

Today is Rapunzel's birthday. She is seven years old.

Mummy has helped her to put on a pretty pink dress. 

Doesn't she look like a princess?

Teacher Lynn gives Rapunzel a story book. 

She is reading the story Rapunzel while waiting for dinner.
