Day 135 : Spaghetti / Cheese Burger Omelette Sandwich

We had a heavy late lunch today (scroll down below).

We're all still kinda stuffed, so I'm just gonna whip up a simple pasta dinner. I am boiling the water half-way when I discover that I don't have enough pasta noodles for 3. Only for one portion. Using the same ingredients, I'm gonna make one portion of pasta for Justine, and fry some (leftover) rice for Bryan and myself. :D

LUNCH

Bryan made burger sandwiches for lunch.

Why sandwiches, You may ask?

Well, we have some beef burger pattie in the freezer but no burger buns. Being a Sunday, we were too lazy to drive out to the store just to get the buns. So, we are having our burger with brown sandwich bread instead. That, we have. I think Bryan feels compelled to turn his masterpiece into a square shape to fit the bread nicely, and so he kinda hid the round burger in an omelette-parcel. :D

CHEESE BURGER OMELETTE SANDWICH

1. Fry the Pate.
Use a masher to sear the pate on both sides.
When ready, transfer to a side plate.

2. Fry an Omelette.
Beat an egg and butter the pan before pouring the egg in.
Place the burger in the middle, and a cheese on top.

3. Fold the Omelette.

Here's your burger cheese omelette- parcel. :D

He stir-fries some chopped mushrooms with shoyu for the topping, and garnish with raw onions and chilly strips; pan toasts two slices of bread, spread butter on one side and mayonnaise on the other before transferring the parcel on one slice. Cover the parcel up with the other slice, and enjoy the sandwich with lots of ketchup! :D

Day 134 : Chicken Rice (Dine Out)

CHICKEN RICE
(along Jalan Gasing, Petalng Jaya)

This evening, we are too tired to cook dinner. We have just had our school's concert and we are bushed. Since Justine and her aunty are attending the Sunset Mass at St Francis Xavier church, we decide to have dinner in a chicken rice restaurant nearby.

The lotus soup with pork ribs is simply amazing!

Crunchy bean sprouts.

 Here's my plate.

Hmmm-mmm-mmm. :D

There's just something about chicken rice I always enjoy and it's the fragrant oily rice with the chilly sauce. Pass the fork and spoons, please ... :D Yes, we must be civilized when in public.

Oh, yummy for the tummy!

KARI ASSAM SOTONG
SQUID TAMARIND CURRY

This evening, we are cooking squid assam curry. The cheatin' way. We're just gonna use a ready-mix assam paste, and add the other ingredients in. :D Once in a blue moon, You cheat, who's to know, huh? :D Actually, we'd like to do the curry from scratch, but this evening, we don't have the time to go through all the blending and what not.

3 Simple Steps :

1. Saute Ingredients.

2. Add Tamarind Paste.

3. Add Squid.

A very simple dish to prepare. Try it.

The Ingredients.

onions, ginger, garlic, tamarind paste, chillies, lady's fingers, tomatoes, squid, lime

1. Saute Ingredients.

Saute garlic, onions and ginger until fragrant.

2. Add Tamarind Paste.

Normally, You'd want to dissolve the tamarind paste in some water, discard the seeds and just retain the water to add into the curry. Problem is, we couldn't find the small strainer. So we're just gonna add the whole tamarind paste in, seeds and all.

Then, add the read-mix assam paste.

Add water. Add seasalt.

3. Add Squid.

Add the rest of the ingredients.

Ta--dahhh! Oh Yum-Yum!

Step aside, my good forks and spoons.
Wash your hands. :D

We are having the squid curry with white rice.

Hmmmm, the curry is tantalizingly-SOUR
and absolutely delicious!!!

Plus, there's some leftover rice which I would just use.

Day 128 : One Pot Braised Chicken Oriental-Style

ONE POT BRAISED CHICKEN
ORIENTAL-STYLE

This evening, Justine is taking a short break from her books and helping me to prepare dinner. Her Dad is still outstation, so dinner will be just for two. Having said, in the end, we kinda cooked like, for 4. Jus will do the frying, and I'll just toss stuffs in.

I'm not going to bother to chop up the chicken, because ... to be REALLY honest, I don't know how to chop chicken. I don't have the strength for it. I have tried a few times before (it's not like I didn't try - I did!), and the chicken piece, after my handling, looked very massacred

Too many slash lines here and there, never at the same spot when the cleaver comes down, and the bones all end up getting crumbled as well, those bit and pieces of the broken bones later would disturb the smooth texture of the food, and we'd find ourselves busy picking the bones out of our mouths, instead of enjoying the food.

Since then, I leave the chopping to Bryan. Let's just work with our strengths, I feel. :D

3 Simple Steps :

1. Saute Ingredients.

2. Add Chicken.

3. Add Broccoli.

This is a very easy dish to prepare.
Just toss everything in. :D

1. Saute Ingredients.

Saute garlic, onions, ginger in sesame seed oil
until You can inhale deeply.

2. Add Chicken.

Add potatoes and carrots.
Toss in some dried chillies.

Add filtered water until it half-covers the contents of the pan.
Add oyster sauce, organic brown rice vinegar and seasalt.

Add thyme herbs.

Bring to boil and simmer on low heat.

3. Add Broccoli
When the contents are about cooked,
toss in the broccoli and coriander leaves.
Close lid. Count to 10 slowly.
Remove lid and snap a photo before serving. :D

Bon Appetite!!!
